Moderation

I started 2011 off with not a lot of moderation....January 9, I ran my first marathon. 26.2 miles of fitness, the next weekend I had two nights of wine drinking with two mornings of headaches to follow. Not what I was hoping for at the beginning of the year, so now I sit down and reevaluate.

I don't want to make resolutions....I am setting goals. The first goal is to set a good example for my kids, my family, my friends. And in that good example goal I find the need for moderation. I am not a believer in crash diets, all or nothing principles, but a believer that everything in moderation is good for you.

The second goal is to pass on a message of good health. That goes back to the first goal of being a good example. I absolutely love what I do for a living....okay, it's not a living but its a paid job. One step at a time, I look forward and realize that I need to encourage those people who come to my classes to live that life of moderation. A little bit of chocolate, a little bit of television watching followed by a little bit of exercise, and a little bit of healthy eating all balance out. Granted that's just the first step. But isn't that where we need to start?

Catching up

So where do I begin? How about in September? We had a great September with visits from the Grandparents and one of the Uncles. T1 & T2 loved getting to go to the State Fair and seeing all of the animals and exhibits. We really enjoyed the Labor Day weekend with them.

Then Grammy came for a visit and helped me do some planting around the house. I have to say we did a bang up job but I think we'll be adding more.

T3 got his first tooth around the 1st of October and the second one appeared this last week. He also started crawling.

T1 has had two gymnastics meets and is doing a great job. T2 had a great soccer season.

We also had family and friends in town for T3's baptism. It was a lot of fun and we feel so blessed to have had so many share the day.

Differences

The Rife Wife and I often talk about how different are kids are in physical appearance, but this weekend the husband and I took our crew to the airshow and I learned just how different the cousins are in interests too.

Well, a picture says a thousand words I guess. The above shows you what our kids were doing during the F15 demo at the airshow. They were looking at cars and trucks. Even after I told them that this was the plane their uncle used to fly. I was absolutely amazed by the demo by the jet but my kids just couldn't be bothered. I guess they are definitely their daddy's kids.

Sweet (and Sassy) Ride

Yesterday was the start of the first full week of school. T1 was so lucky because one of her new friends won a limo ride to school. It was really cute to see T1 and 9 other girls pile into this car. The poor mother who had to ride with was probably overcome by the screaming girls....the limo driver told the girls the car ran on noise. T1 came hopping out of school yesterday with a big smile on her face. I finally am starting to feel like we are getting into a rhythm here. We of course had to get home quickly and get changed for gymnastics, but we got to see smiles on her face after gymnastics last night as well. She has had the hardest time making the transition from Maryland to Nebraska. She really misses her girlfriends from gymnastics. The upside for her is that we finally have little girls living next door. I can't keep track of all the girls names, but it makes for fun times.

Saving all my goodness

T2 is my trying child to say the least. He's the sweetest little boy ever but he is frequently up to no good. So this week when he started Kindergarten, I was nervous to say the least. He has been amazing though. The first day of school he was dressed before I even went in his room. The third day he came into my room all dressed with shoes on before I was even out of bed. I was so impressed with him.

His behavior at school has been great as well. The first day he was so proud because he was on green and two kids from his class went to the principal's office. Our conversation on the second day went a bit like this:
Me: T2, how was your day?
T2: It was good, Mom. I was on green.
Me: Buddy, I am so proud of you. You are being such a good boy.
T2: Yep, Mom. I am saving all of my goodness for school.

I guess if it means good days at school, I can handle a bit of naughtiness at home.

Firsts

Firsts....we have had a lot of them since my last post. We have traveled over 3500 miles from Maryland to our new home in Nebraska. We are finally settling in and getting into something resembling a routine. The husband is back at work and I am making our new house into a home. T1 and T2 started school today. T2 had absolutely no need for me to get him settled in his Kindergarten class. He ran in and checked in with his teacher and was coloring all before I had time to say good bye. T1 is in 2nd grade and enjoying it. Both kids were lucky enough to have neighbors in their classes so they didn't go in knowing no one.

T3 has started solid food. It was and is a mess but a lot of fun. I am trying to put some weight on him. The doctor wasn't pleased with his last weight so we will try and fatten him up a bit but it seems to be the same refrain we heard with T2. T3 is starting to finally settle into something resembling a schedule.....I think. He is finally going to bed early and is getting 6 hours of sleep before he wakes me up.

Well, I will try and keep you posted. I am hoping for the third time to be better about blogging.

Man of the House

So usually T2 just gets written about because of his naughty behavior, but today I have to write his praises. Daddy is out of town for the week and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. T2 proved to be the best little helper yesterday. He came upstairs yesterday morning to tell me he had a surprise for me. I followed him downstairs to his room where he showed me that he had made his bed all by himself. He then proceeded to tell his sister about it and then make her bed. He was so proud he had to tell Daddy also. It was a great day with him....I think I only had to correct him once. (For T2 that is a record).
